Director: Philippe Garrel • France
In Philippe Garrel’s latest deconstruction of the Paris bourgeoisie, a documentarian flits selfishly between his wife (who’s also his artistic collaborator) and a pretty young intern, while absolving himself of any blame. With beautiful black-and-white compositions recalling Garrel’s roots in the French New Wave, this stripped-down, unflinching drama is a bracingly self-aware unveiling of the toxic male psyche.
